You and I Deserve Nothing

"It feels really good to wake up every morning knowing that I do not deserve the life I have. I do not deserve the food I eat, the friends I have, the health of my body, and the experiences I have. I Deserve Nothing.

People too often feel entitled to things. You feel like you “deserve” the world. You don’t. No one does. The sounds horribly depressing, but if you know me by now, you know I don’t look at things from the negative side.

The upside to deserving nothing is you always feel like you are given everything! How good does a perfect gift feel on your birthday or at Christmas? How great is a brand new iPhone or a car. It’s amazing! Now imagine the gift of being able to live your life every day. Not all of you believe in God, and I’m not telling any of you that you have to. But I am telling you that living every day that you don’t deserve it makes everyday feel that much better!

So, I like to wake up knowing I don’t deserve anything. I don’t deserve this band. I don’t deserve these friends. I don’t deserve this brain or this body. None of it is mine. Every day it is a gift to me.

I know that this philosophy sounds a little crazy and pretty hippy-ish, but that’s ok because it makes me happy. Don’t you want to be happier?"
